Low Emission Zone Arrives in Sóller

News | 01/02/2025

Sóller joins Palma in the goal of reducing pollutant gas emissions in the town center.

Following the implementation of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in Palma on January 1, 2025, it has now been announced that the same regulation will be applied in Sóller. This town, heavily impacted by tourism during peak seasons, is taking action to address the issue.

The future of mobility in the Balearic Islands is sustainable

The LEZ is a regulation that restricts vehicle access to specific areas designated by local authorities. Many municipalities across the country are already in the process of adopting similar measures.

The zones defined by each city council will only allow access to vehicles with the DGT labels classified as Zero Emissions, ECO, C, and B. If a vehicle does not have one of these stickers, a special access permit will be required from the local town hall.

In Palma, the regulation has been in effect since early 2025, although fines will not be enforced immediately to allow residents time to adjust. Recently, it was announced that Sóller will implement these restrictions to limit traffic in the town center to residents only.

More and more measures are being introduced to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Electric mobility and other alternatives to conventional combustion engines are key to ensuring unrestricted driving while also lowering pollution levels.

Fortunately, there is a wide range of vehicles that support these alternative energies, including fully electric cars. While staying informed about new regulations is essential, choosing electric mobility today is a significant step towards a better future.
